Darlene Kuik

Darlene grew up in Langley BC surrounded by an entrepreneurial Dutch immigrant family.  Her father’s electrical company – Penta Enterprises - provided “light” for many multifamily dwellings in the Fraser Valley.  Darvonda Nurseries was also a family business – named after 3 sisters – Darlene, Yvonne and Brenda.

Although the plan was to take over the electrical business, the young Kuik family found themselves moving in a different direction when the opportunity arose to do social work in Brazil.  They lived there for 10 years.  The family grew from 3 to 7 members during that time.

Besides homeschooling, Darlene has been involved in social projects.  Weighing and monitoring about 150 babies per week in 3 different rural areas lead to establishing a long term care facility for malnourished and dehydrated children.  Darlene was also very involved in the growth and structure of Escola Biblica Crista – a privately run school providing quality education for hundreds of local students.  Until recently she still organized annual teacher workshops in Brazil with guest speakers from Canada and the USA.

On one memorable occasion, President Fernando Henrique Cardoso of Brazil had come to visit the small fishing village of Maragogi, Alagoas where Darlene resided.  The students of Escola Biblica Crista were able to sing for the President while Darlene played the piano.  This event was televised later that evening on the National news.

After some turns here and there, the Kuik family has again made roots in Langley.  The children have all grown up, and a new chapter unfolds.

Darlene feels honoured to promote and represent Lumon.  This frameless, retractable glass system out of Finland is changing lives!  In the past 35 years and in over 25 countries millions are experiencing balcony living like never before!  Lumon is now available in Canada!

Darlene has currently joined the board of the Canadian Condominium Institute (CCI Vancouver).  She is looking forward to being a part of this non-profit organization surrounded by qualified people who assist in establishing and operating successful condominium corporations.
